The Sustained Eventualities series presents itself as a return to form. I approached these pieces not only as sonic reactions to the polaroid photos by Whitson Ramsey used as the covers, but as an exercise is composing in large overarching segments that blend into various spaces. This is a way of composing I have explored much in my work under my given name as well as various prior Blanket Swimming titles. I recall first beginning Blanket Swimming and not having much of a preconceived idea of what ambient music is or what it should be and using compositional techniques from my years of playing in a post-rock band as one of my few frames of reference. I was and still am fascinated with this narrative-like collage style of telling a story through sound that emerged from this early exploration. Presenting chapters as separate arcs in a greater overall narrative. Evolution and growth of seed structures.
Sustained Eventualities attempts to expand upon this formative compositional technique using a palette of varying materials to create what almost feels like a "mix" at times, while still maintaining a coherence in concept and a unifying narrative. Vinyl record samples of classical music are stretched and morphed, field recordings are used as pathways and dream-headspaces, unused material and old discarded ideas are resurrected into murky byways, clean electronically generated harmonies and beats stand beside feedback guitar glimmers...
This is volume I out of III titled "Window Glance," which unfolds across 10 movements.
